Things I have observed

This is a very touchy, controversial subject. With all of the mass shootings, robberies, and thefts that has been claiming innocent lives, shattering families and dreams, most people have mixed emotions regarding the purchasing and use of guns. Let me preface my blog by saying this:  I am TOTALLY for gun control.  There needs to be a restriction on the access to and the availability of these items.  I am for the second amendment right to bear arms as I am a gun owner as well. I do believe that people should be screened before purchases (even though some will slip through). I do believe that every gun owner should be held accountable for the discharge of their weapons to a degree. A noted exception would be if the gun was stolen from your home and it was reported to the authorities. Guns should be locked up securely and used solely for protection of ourselves and our families. Freedom, the  exemption from external control is considered the highest form of life.  The ability to choose whatever your hearts desire without consequence.  Sounds like a utopia doesn't it?  Actually its not. We profess that we are free because we are not confined to an institution (for example jail, half-way home, mental hospital).  In fact I would argue that we are not free....actually never were. Think about it.  Everyday we get up (whether we like it or not), clean up, clothe ourselves, go to work via a car, bus or train. We perform the same task everyday (just like the people confined to an institution of some sort) for a certain amount of hours at an agreed upon pay rate. When that day is over, we board the bus, train or drive our cars back to our home (or second job) and continue til the evening and we finally go to bed to rest.  If we have a family that adds another dynamic to the mix. Contrary to what people believe, the global concept is nothing new.  The vast majority of the world has been operating in this concept for decades.  Just check the history books.  Many of the European nations and the African countries (yes Africa is a continent) were conquering, "colonizing" or dominating other nations before this phrase was coined.  Now it sounds prestigious to say that you are a "global citizen" then to identify with a specific country or continent. Why are we so interested in this now? Before you shake your head at me let me preface my next paragraph by saying this: I am ALL for global networking.  I have learned so much from people all around the world. Knowledge is power and information is how we get it.  I have avoided so many pitfalls in life from learning and listening to others.  I am just addressing the "newness" attributed to the phrase. I HAVE A VOICE!!! This declaration is powerful.  It generally comes after a person has grown tired of being silent.  For so long they have been overlooked, ignored, violated, bullied and a myriad of other things. Until recent years, I was one of those silent voices. It started when I was a child. My mom sent me to the neighborhood store to purchase something. As I was exiting the store, a woman, who was angry at someone or something, looked at me and said I was the ugliest child she had ever seen. Wow. Tell me how you REALLY feel!  At that moment I didn't realize that her comment would set off a chain reaction of feelings of low self esteem supported by racism, bullying, attempted kidnapping and a series of other events that sent me into silence.  I became that person that people constantly took their frustrations out on...verbally or physically.  So I grew tired and began to fight everyone in my path, but I was still silent.
