QOTD- WWYD

Honesty is a trait that is so rare it is considered an exception. We are surrounded by distorted truths or lies that we are apprehensive when we encounter new people.   It really doesn’t matter the race, religion, creed, skin color or not, we put our best foot forward which oftentimes is not the real YOU. I often wondered what the world would be like if we actually acted out what we truly feel in our hearts. Unfortunately I no longer have to wonder. Ever since the changing of the guards at our wonderful capitol, the ugly American (as the foreign countries say) has resurfaced like an old spy reemerging from retirement to do a job who the agencies thought was dead. But that’s another blog….. This brand of honesty I am speaking of is different. This past week an armored truck’s back door flew open and hundreds of thousands of dollars blew across the highway in Indianapolis, IN. People stopped got out of their cars, picked up as much money as they could and drove/ran/cycled away

Downsizing your company

Image
When we hear someone mention the phrase "Downsizing your company" we generally think of a Fortune 500 entity, a local grocery chain or some form of business or institution. We think of budget cuts, layoffs, early retirements. In some cases, people think of moving to a smaller home, purchasing a less expensive car, selling a timeshare.  Why do we always think of something tangible? Downsizing has a negative stigma attached to it.  We always think of losing or defeat. But that is not entirely true if we analyze it.  Think about the following questions.  Are you surround by toxic people that drain your ambitions of success? Do you spend an unusual amount of time on social media that distracts you from achieving things on your bucket list (i.e writing a book, online classes)? Do you spend hours in front of the television watching TV shows of no real value instead of exercising your mind (at a museum or reading a book) or your body? Prioritizing yourself to accomplish somethin

The Aquatic Mindset

Image
Did the title make you think? Excellent.   During my meditation and relaxation the thought gently landed in my mind. How often do we focus so intently on something that we walk right pass someone we know and do not see them? Or the time we were searching for our keys, our wallet, or something of value and it was sitting right in our faces? Or we spend hours trying to understand words that were spoken, but the minute we relax, the meaning becomes perfectly clear? DISCLAIMER:   I am not talking about your goals you have set for your life (in a sense of speaking, just hear me out). When we focus intently on the task ahead, we miss so many things that are around us. My father, who is a 3rd degree brown belt in Karate, lost a competition when he started practicing because he forgot one important thing he was taught “keep your mind as water”.   When he focused solely on one area of his opponent, he couldn’t “see” what the guy was planning.   My dad woke up in the hospital 3 day

The Art of Gun Control

Image
This is a very touchy, controversial subject. With all of the mass shootings, robberies, and thefts that has been claiming innocent lives, shattering families and dreams, most people have mixed emotions regarding the purchasing and use of guns. Let me preface my blog by saying this:  I am TOTALLY for gun control.  There needs to be a restriction on the access to and the availability of these items.  I am for the second amendment right to bear arms as I am a gun owner as well. I do believe that people should be screened before purchases (even though some will slip through). I do believe that every gun owner should be held accountable for the discharge of their weapons to a degree. A noted exception would be if the gun was stolen from your home and it was reported to the authorities. Guns should be locked up securely and used solely for protection of ourselves and our families. My issue is that this type of control will basically affect people like me.  I have no desire to perform

Freedom....a complicated concept

Image
Freedom, the  exemption from external control is considered the highest form of life.  The ability to choose whatever your hearts desire without consequence.  Sounds like a utopia doesn't it?  Actually its not. We profess that we are free because we are not confined to an institution (for example jail, half-way home, mental hospital).  In fact I would argue that we are not free....actually never were. Think about it.  Everyday we get up (whether we like it or not), clean up, clothe ourselves, go to work via a car, bus or train. We perform the same task everyday (just like the people confined to an institution of some sort) for a certain amount of hours at an agreed upon pay rate. When that day is over, we board the bus, train or drive our cars back to our home (or second job) and continue til the evening and we finally go to bed to rest.  If we have a family that adds another dynamic to the mix. So are we really free or do we live with a modified freedom? Dr. Alex Lickerman,

The Global Vantage Point

Image
Contrary to what people believe, the global concept is nothing new.  The vast majority of the world has been operating in this concept for decades.  Just check the history books.  Many of the European nations and the African countries (yes Africa is a continent) were conquering, "colonizing" or dominating other nations before this phrase was coined.  Now it sounds prestigious to say that you are a "global citizen" then to identify with a specific country or continent. Why are we so interested in this now? Before you shake your head at me let me preface my next paragraph by saying this: I am ALL for global networking.  I have learned so much from people all around the world. Knowledge is power and information is how we get it.  I have avoided so many pitfalls in life from learning and listening to others.  I am just addressing the "newness" attributed to the phrase. Now back to my thoughts.. Is it another recycled trend to get us to spend more money?

Ummm..... I HAVE A VOICE!

Image
I HAVE A VOICE!!! This declaration is powerful.  It generally comes after a person has grown tired of being silent.  For so long they have been overlooked, ignored, violated, bullied and a myriad of other things. Until recent years, I was one of those silent voices. It started when I was a child. My mom sent me to the neighborhood store to purchase something. As I was exiting the store, a woman, who was angry at someone or something, looked at me and said I was the ugliest child she had ever seen. Wow. Tell me how you REALLY feel!  At that moment I didn't realize that her comment would set off a chain reaction of feelings of low self esteem supported by racism, bullying, attempted kidnapping and a series of other events that sent me into silence.  I became that person that people constantly took their frustrations out on...verbally or physically.  So I grew tired and began to fight everyone in my path, but I was still silent. I always had these outbursts that were out of contro
